The Dallas Chamber Music Society has a proud history of educational outreach in Dallas and throughout North Texas. Students receive free tickets to our concerts, and our visiting ensembles regularly give masterclasses at Southern Methodist University, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing Arts, and other schools and universities.

Despite the myriad challenges that all performing arts organizations are facing due to COVID-19, we succeeded in continuing our education and outreach programs. On October 11 and 12, 2020, Grammy-Award winning violinist Philippe Quint and Steinway Artist Marta Aznavoorian presented a two-day residency for students of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and Southern Methodist University. This residency included performances, Q&A sessions, and masterclasses. Over the course of this two-day residency, more than 200 students participated either virtually or in person. A GDYO conductor shared the following comments about the residency:

“I’m happy to say from what I saw that (they) were truly fantastic and fascinating musicians and were very energetic and engaging with students posing questions on the chat at the end. I am very pleased that my Philharmonic string section got to be part of this and its glimpse into the life of being a touring soloist and chamber musician”

In March 2020, we hosted the Chicago-based Spektral Quartet for a week-long residency, during which the quartet performed concerts and delivered masterclasses for individual instrumentalists, chamber ensembles, and student composers at the University of North Texas, the University of Texas at Dallas, and SMU.
